I press my face against the glass window panes of the shop
The cakes and pastries are so delicious to look at,
I gorge on them every day,in my dreams
For my father is a coolie and my mother, a maid,you see.
I stand before the school,
The boys and girls are in colourful uniforms
I too wear these uniforms and play with them in the ground,in my dreams
For my father is no more,and my mother ,a rag picker,you see.
I look at the big bungalow
The curtains dancing to the wind’s music
I live in this house only, with plush sofa sets everywhere,in my dreams
For my father is a drunkard and my mother is licking her wounds in silence,you see.
I admire the car which looks like a ship
I go for a drive in it everyday,in my dreams
Till my mother comes,beats me black and blue and throws me out
For my mother is a sex worker and my father brings home men,you see.
As I walk on the beach,selling peanuts
I see a boy and girl
They are in each other’s arms,laughing and giggling
They are very much in love,you see.
One day I will have a girl by my side
We will lie on each other’s lap and make merry.
I will get her glass bangles,she will buy me bajjias
Together we will eat and be happy,you see
So what if we don’t have money?
We live in a world made of dreams
Glass bangles can make my girl feel like a queen ,bajjias can make me feel like a king
In our dream world there is no dearth of happiness, you see.
